How To Balance Different Lights to Capture Extraordinary Photos

Photography is all about light. How does light express an idea? How can I use light as a focus in my photography? How do I used different types of light and balance it to create extraordinary Photos? At Sky Mountain Lodge in Victor, Idaho I had the opportunity to put knowledge and skills with auxillary lighting to create extraordinary photos.

For this photo I had, camera left, a stack of books to hold the spoon and strawberry in place. Camera right, I had a continuous LED light illuminating my subject. With that, I had Caryn Esplin ready to pour the sugar onto the strawberry. With a slow shutter speed I was able to capture the sugar as a smooth and blurred motion.

For my next shot I used four speedlights, one directed on each corner of the Loreal product. I then had Chantel with a spray bottle as I pressed my shutter. The action of the speedlights is what was able to capture the freeze motion of the water droplets from the spray bottle.
